CM-S3 is a multifuncition data acquisition (DAQ) system comprising analogue and digital functions to input and output data. During operation it requires permenent connection with a PC through the parallel port.

Characteristics

Interconnection with the PC

Connected to parallel port, optimal parallel port mode settings for BIOS are EPP, ECP+EPP or ECP.
External power supply (12 V, AC, >0.5 amp).

Analogue input

q       8-channels,
q      12-bit or 8-bit resolution,
q      maximal sampling rate 8-bit: 500 kSamples/sec, 12-bit: 10 kSamples/sec
q
input range 0 V to 5 V for six channels, -10 V to +10 V for two channels,
q       protected against damage if input voltage is out of range.

Analogue output

q       2-channels,
q       8-bit resolution,
q       output range: first channel 0V to 5 V, second -10 V to +10 V, 50 mA max output current,
q       protection against shortcut connections.

Digital output

q       two 4-bit, two 8-bit (=24-bit),
q       TTL logic (0V and 5V), 74HC buffers at the output.

Digital input

q       four 4-bit (=16-bit),
q       TTL logic, if not connected, logical 0 is detected,
q       protected against damage if input voltage is out of range.

Oputput supply voltage

q       +5V, -5V, +12V, -12V, all DC, maximal 0.5 amp.

Connectors

q       6 DIN 5-way sockets for analogue input/output, +5V DC; compatible with the Vernier’s analogue sensors DIN type
q         2 telephone 6-way connectors for digital input/output, +5V DC, compatible with Vernier’s Sonic distance sensor ULI type
q       2 boxed headers 16-way connectors for 8-bit digital output, 4-bit digital input and DC power (+5V and +12 V), compatible with H-bridge circuit for controlling DC and stepper motors,
q       24 terminal block connectors (screw less) enabling direct wire connections for analogue and digital input/output functions.

Software support

eProLab programme is a general purpose software supporting the CMC-S3 system.

eProLib is a collection of programming libraries for Borland Delphi and MS Visual Basic, including Excel applications invoking Visual Basic code. The libraries support the H-bridge system as well.

eProLab software and eProLib programming libraries can be downloaded free of charge.

Availability

CMC-S3 has been produced in a series of 120 pieces on no commercial basis. It has been tested within the ComLab-1 project partners and co-operating schools.

The CMC-S3 is no longer produced due to eProDas familly of the DAQ systems.
